Recording Studio for the Portland Metro Area

Crazy Daisy Productions offers recording and mixing services for local musicians and businesses. Although we are primarily an audio postproduction facility, we offer studio time for independent artists in the same space where we record musicians and vocal talents for our production work.

Conveniently located just outside the city and easily accessible, Crazy Daisy provides an ideal recording space for musicians and artists looking for an intimate and friendly setting. Our studio includes a comfortable, acoustically treated room for recording vocals and live instruments, and an acoustically treated vocal booth for isolating live sound with beautiful results. Sessions are scheduled on a per-availability basis, typically in the evenings or weekends so as not to compete with our other production projects.

RATES for Recording:

• $35 - hourly rate, engineer provided (2 hour min.)
• $70 - booking deposit, required at time of scheduling (applied toward session)

Cancellation Policy:

• 100% deposit refund if cancelled at least 48 hours before scheduled time
• 50% deposit refund if cancelled 24-48 hours before scheduled time
• No deposit refund if cancelled less than 24 hours before scheduled time

RATES for Mixing:

• $35/hr, in person
• $30/hr + $5/song, via correspondence

Equipment

Recording is done using either Cubase 6 or ProTools 9 software. We can track up to 16 audio channels and 1 midi input simultaneously and can playback several times this quantity. We feature an amazing Blue Kiwi microphone in our vocal booth along with several quality microphones, including a Blue Baby Bottle and a variety of dynamic mics, for outstanding vocal and live instrument recordings. We utilize several pre-amps for a variety of sounds and uses. Vocals are picked up clean and rich with almost zero background or electronic noise present. Our Lexicon MX200 outboard dual-stereo effects processor and 4-output headphone amplifier provide a comfortable monitoring environment for musicians and artists. Instruments can also be plugged in electronically and recorded through this chain or picked up acoustically using one of our sets of directional stereo condenser mic pairs and variety of dynamic mics.

Need an instrument? We have a variety of acoustic and electric stringed instruments, wooden flutes, and some percussion instruments available to use if you wish to add something more to your recordings. Our Yamaha S08 full-size 88-key MIDI keyboard contains a large variety of built-in instrument sounds and sound effects with weighted keys for realistic piano key feel. MIDI recordings allow complete control over the timing, volume level, attack, decay, and even the instrument sound itself at any point in the recording or mixing process. Call ahead to ensure we have the instruments you want available at the time of your recording.

Mixing can be done in person, if you would like to sit in with the engineer, or by correspondence if you want to allow the engineer to work solo. The amount of time required for the mixing work will depend on the complexity of your project. A discount is offered for allowing the engineer to work on your mix on his/her own time schedule, which may be a good way to save a few dollars on a time-intensive project.
